ABOUT EMILY PERRIN

Emily Perrin, LMSW

 CEO and Founder

Welcome! I'm Emily.

I'm a Nervous System and Performance Coach and

Licensed Master of Social Work.

I'm a former DI athlete, DI coach and youth soccer coach.

From the day I was born I have been in and around the world of sport and coaching. My Dad was a Division I college basketball coach at UVA for the first 8 years of my life. I grew up in and around competitive sport. My Dad also holds a PhD in sport psychology and has worked with some of the best athletes and coaches in the world. This work has been a part of my life since day one.

I grew up as a competitive swimmer and played soccer. I went on to play college soccer at the University of Vermont for 1 year before transferring and finishing my career at the University of Virginia.  At the end of my playing career I stepped right into coaching at the youth level and spent three seasons at the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant coach.

However, my passion for this work comes from my own personal journey with mental health. I am a survivor of childhood trauma and have spent the majority of my life navigating chronic and debilitating anxiety, panic attacks, depression and CPTSD.

I have been in a place of desperation and incomplete health more times than I can count. Through my struggle I embarked on a journey that lead me to  a yoga mat. From there my self study and exploration in to the world of mindfulness, the nervous system, trauma informed meditation and breath work and more. Many professionals have helped me along the way and have been extremely influential in my WHY for this work today. Health and healing are a journey and one that I am still navigating to this day.

Ultimately, I know that I am not the only person with my story. My mission and the foundation of my work is to positively impact the lives of athletes, coaches and the people I connect with in any sport organization. I hope for a future where there are less people with a story like mine.

I am passionate about changing the landscape of sport and sport culture so that it is more mental health aware and trauma informed. I believe this is the key to helping sport culture shift from reactive to proactive approaches to overall well being for all people involved in sport.

I have a Masters in Clinical Social Work from the University of Denver and am a Licensed Master of Social Work located in Baltimore, Maryland. I am a registered 200 hour Yoga Instructor, certified Mindfulness and Meditation teacher and Duke Certified Integrative Health Coach. I have additional and advanced training in trauma, trauma informed care, the nervous system, the mind-body connection, suicide and more.

Through my business Perrin Wellness and Performance I offer holistic mental health, resiliency and mindfulness programming.

I do this through:

  • Education
  • Speaking engagements
  • Workshop
  • Team and individual coaching

I prioritize creating spaces that are Trauma Informed and inclusive of all identities. I have committed myself to additional training, learning and growth in both Diversity, equity and inclusion and Trauma Informed Care.

At the end of the day, I believe that sport and performance are about so much more than winning.

When we help our athletes, coaches and the greater sport community address their health in an all encompassing way we set them all up for reaching and maintaining fulfillment, joy and success.

"Emily was so helpful for me because she understands the daily life of collegiate athletes, along with the pressures that athletes put on themselves. She helped me understand why I react the way I do when I struggle, how to acknowledge my reactions, and methods to correct them in the moment."

- Matt Mervis, Duke Baseball 2020, Chicago Cubs Organization
